Georgia Dental Association Kicks off Georgia Mission of Mercy with Nationwide Fanfare
The dismal economy has made many basic services difficult to afford, and for some, a visit to the dentist is an impossible luxury. While the state of Georgia has safety nets in place for children whose families cannot pay for care, Georgia has no such program for low-income adults. Determined to help provide dental care for people who are unable to pay for treatment, the Georgia Dental Association founded The Georgia Mission of Mercy, a two-day, free dental clinic. Last Friday and Saturday, the clinic opened its doors to the public and in only two days provided dental services to 2,179 patients at no cost. Approximately 1,000 dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and dental laboratory technicians donated $1.6 million in dental care to patients in need. In addition to clinical professionals, approximately 500 community volunteers managed patient registration and hospitality, childcare, parking assistance, translation services, volunteer hospitality and registration, waste management and security support.
three had the opportunity to lend our time to help plan and promote this event, and our team was amazed to see the incredible work of these dedicated dental professionals. An astounding 9,000 procedures were preformed over the course of the two-day clinic, and we had the honor of witnessing immediate, life-changing transformations. Adding to the fun, thanks to our PR team, the event received media coverage on NBC Nightly News, ABC World News Tonight, Drudge Report, The Atlanta Journal Constitution and Atlanta's ABC, NBC, Fox and CBS affiliates.
